Pinocchio

Arturo Biagioni was born in Italy in 1880, son of Luigi Biagioni, an Italian comedian.

Arturo was orphaned at the age of nine, and ran away from the orphanage two years later to follow the traveling fairs, tumbling on the pavements to earn a living. In 1893 he joined the Italian circus Circo Guillaume, where the director remembered his father.

Arturo initially worked as an acrobat, trapezist, and chair balancer, and was given the name the Delightful Puppet because he was young and flexible. In 1910, Arturo became Pinocchio, an Auguste clown, inventing most of his own tricks and a unique style. Pinocchio worked at Bertram Mills Circus for over forty years, and his portrait was featured on their Olympia program guides.

He died in May 1951.
